Project Overview

Located in Suzhou Peninsula Tourist Resort Enterprise Headquarters Base, Yangcheng Innovation Headquarters Park is close to the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway in the north and enjoys a view of the Yangcheng Lake Peninsula Tourist Resort in the distance. The project covers an area of 62,500 square meters, including 19 R&D office buildings and 1 industrial supporting building. The project will create a "1+2" digital integration application headquarters area, which will take industrial intelligence as the core and digital medical health, digital creativity as the feature, and enterprises that focus on digital technology software and hardware research and development will be introduced into the area.

The project is developed by the commercial property company under Suzhou Hengtai Holding, and FTA is responsible for the design. It echoes the unique natural landscape of Yangcheng Lake Peninsula Tourist Resort, integrates "science and technology" and "culture" to build the most distinctive complex ecological digital industrial community in Suzhou Industrial Park, and carries out relevant design from the four aspects of "city", "art", "community" and "construction".

Project Brief

The existing problems in the region are that the pure office market is overflowing the homogenization competition in the digital industry is intensifying, and the architects and owners want to create an "urban complex" that can strike a balance between the public nature of the city and the office park.

Surrounded by talented apartments, residential buildings, and high-density office parks, the site needs to find ways to isolate the external noises, so the project designs a square guided by the entrance of urban public space, and cuts the building volume to form streets and lanes, creating a modern superblock and "lane" culture that echoes the city culture.

In the future, lifestyle is competitive. The building volume of more than 220,000 square meters mainly houses the office module, in addition to commercial, catering, exhibition, and other functions. Designers show their attention to the quality of architecture and space, the highlights of products, and the needs of industries, and also truly realize "work is for a better life" from the aspects of the historical context of the city and the humanistic care of the community.

Project Innovation/Need

In terms of spatial layout, the design arranges the architectural space around the central courtyard, emphasizes the design of the internal landscape garden, and forms the urban interface with the sense of science and technology outside and the warm humanistic core inside. From the beginning of the design, the architects consider taking full advantage of the site's location and superior natural landscape resources to create the most recognizable and popular digital industrial community in Suzhou. As for the overall plan, the park extracts the garden elements of classical gardens in Suzhou, implants "urban green lung" and natural water features in the central core area of the park, and integrates a variety of products to create terraces and roof gardens towards the internal landscape area, forming an overall large spatial structure with a regular external urban interface and rich internal space. The design concept of "Xin Gu Li" echoes the unique natural landscape of Yangcheng Lake Peninsula Tourist Resort, with a view to creating the most distinctive complex ecological digital industrial community in Suzhou Industrial Park.

Design Challenge

The comprehensive consideration of building materials, structure, technology, and other aspects is the challenge facing the design. In this project, the designers did a lot of research on the facade construction and the selection of materials. Based on the concept of "digital crystal", a highly recognizable urban landmark is successfully created, and a diamond-cut curtain wall process is used to create a crystal-clear facade image. Crystal represents a kind of energy, and the architects hope that the project will become an important empowering center for the digital economy industry in Suzhou to help more digital enterprises and digital talents achieve rapid growth. The main body of the tower adopts silver and white rod pieces to highlight the technological sense of the corporate image. The lower areas of the tower and the facade of the multi-storey office space towards the central courtyard are partially decorated in warm colors to add identity and ambiance.

The rigorous facade construction and curtain wall constitute the poetic structure of the building. Inside, the natural water features and lush plants bring a soft and delicate core. The architects hope to provide future users with a brand-new spatial experience and communication feelings.

Sustainability

The park fully considers the sustainability of design. 1. Priority is given to passive energy saving: optimize building size factor, improve and maintain structural performance, enhance natural ventilation, and make full use of natural lighting. 2. Optimize active energy saving: configure high-efficiency ground source heat pump system and choose smart energy-saving lamps. 3. Supplement renewable energy: solar power ground source heat pump system and wind power. 4. Intelligent control of energy: intelligent linkage and joint control of HVAC and lighting and other energy systems, rational distribution and dispatch of energy.

In addition, the entire design reflects the concept of intelligent construction, to be specific, the use of BIM technology in project planning and design and construction phase, the 100% proportion of prefabricated buildings, a prefabrication rate of building units not less than 30%, the double-layer LOW-E high-performance heat-insulating glass for the building facade that can greatly reduce the solar thermal radiation absorption and cooling energy consumption of buildings. The design also takes measures to reduce carbon intensity per unit building area based on the calculation and analysis of building carbon emissions.

This award celebrates the design process and product of planning, designing and constructing form, space and ambience that reflect functional, technical, social, and aesthetic considerations. Consideration given for material selection, technology, light and shadow.
